Atomic number: 10
Atomic mass: 20.18
Protons: 10
Neutrons: 10
Electrons: 10
Boiling Point: -246.1 °C
Density: 0.901 g/cm3
History
Neon was discovered by William Ramsey a scottish chemist and Morris M. Travis an English chemist in 1898. They discovered it though the study of liquified air. Liquified air is when air or gasses are cooled to a temperature in which the gas or air becomes a liquid state. The biggest and main use for neon, is making neon signs for advertising. Neon is also used for making high voltage indicators and TV tubes. When combined with Helium, they can make helium-neon lasers. Neon is the 4th most active gas in the universe. Neon signs work when the neon gas is electrically charged so it becomes a plasma state and as you combine different elements with neon, you get different colors and brightnesses.
